EWING MALONATE MODIFIED BROTH is widely used to distinguish Enterobacteriaceae based on the use of malonate. Examples of bacteria with positive malonate activity are: Enterobacter, Klebsiella, and Salmonella Arizona. Some examples not able to utilize malonate are Escherichia, Shigella, Serratia and amongst others.
